My good friend, and constant friend to homeless people in Dallas, David Timothy (AKA SoupMan) has asked me to pass along this information about the SoupMobile’s new fund-raising campaign. I’m including a description of the campaign in David’s own words and links to the website. KS
PENNIES FROM HEAVEN!!!
Pennies??? Okay SoupMan, what wacky idea have you come up with now???
Well folks, this time it wasn’t actually my idea. It came from an amazing 10 year old young man—Andrew Niemi of Carleton, Michigan. He collected ONE MILLION PENNIES (which equals $10,000 dollars) and then he donated the money to his school–St. Patrick’s. Pretty wonderful don’t you think! In a world where some say our youth are losing their way, this 10 year old went on a mission to help his school. This is a young man who felt it was more important to give than to receive. Not only did he NOT lose his way, he showed us all that with a little bit of spunk and determination we can all make a difference. I for one am inspired by Andrew.
So okay SoupMan, that sounds like a wonderful story, but what’s all of this got to do with me? Well I’m glad you asked. I’m hoping that you too will be inspired by Andrew. You or your church group, or your school, or your organization can get together and raise ONE MILLION PENNIES for the SoupMobile. Did you know that the SoupMobile serves over 125,000 meals to the homeless in the Dallas area each year? Did you know that it costs a pretty ‘penny’ to buy that much food? Did you know that the SoupMan needs your pennies to help keep feeding the ‘least of these?’
So are you up for the PENNIES FROM HEAVEN Challenge? 10 year old Andrew did it and so can you. Here’s how to get started. Click on this link Pennies from Heaven Sign up Form and then get your group together and start collecting. Keep the SoupMan posted on how you are doing and feel free to invite him to come and speak to your group and cheer them on. Once you reach your goal lets get together and invite the local TV and news people and have a celebration. Lets show the world that the spirit of giving is alive and well.

Thanks so very much for posting the SoupMobile’s
PENNIES FROM HEAVEN information on your blog.
In a day where gas approaches $4.00 a gallon, the
SoupMan isn’t asking for your hard cash, just your
pennies. Everyone has pennies lying around in drawers,
coin jars, bottoms of purses and if you look close enough
you can find them laying around on the ground. And of
course the pennies collected will all go for a good cause:
——-Feeding the Homeless in the Dallas area——–
So the SoupMan asks you to consider this: The next time you
are sitting down to eat a meal, remember there are thousands
of homeless people who struggle each day just to find food.
Your pennies can make all the difference for a hungry homeles
person.
So how do you get started collecting pennies? Simply go to
http://www.soupmobile.org and click on PENNIES FROM HEAVEN.
May the Lord’s blessing be upon you and yours.

I glad to see that my son Andrew inspired you, and this is great that you are doing this penny project. Is there a way we can track your progress? Look forward to seeing how well you are doing.
Andrew’s Dad
Hi, Andrew’s Dad!
I’ve forwarded your comment to the SoupMan. I’m sure he’ll be in touch. What Andrew has done is very inspiring!

Hi Andrews Dad
So very glad to hear from you. Our Pennies From Heaven campaign is about one month old. So its too soon for detailed information, but we do have #6 groups and #1 individual signed up and committed to raising the pennies for the SoupMobile.
All of us here in Dallas are thankful to Andrew for setting such a positive example for the rest of us. Because of Andrew’s dedication and commitment, thousands of meals will be fed to the homeless in the Dallas area. Our best to you and your entire family.
